Social action in the AMUNatColl project

Until September 25 a social campaign is being organized in the framework of the AMUNatColl project, carried out by the Faculty of Biology, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan together with Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center. The project entitled “Non-divine ambrosia” aims to develop a map of the occurrence of allergenic plants of the ambrosia genus in Poznan and to prepare a report on the allergological risk, the source of which are pollen grains produced by this plant.

The basis for the project implementation lies in the scientific value of the natural history collections held at the Faculty of Biology of Adam Mickiewicz University. Over the decades of activity of the Faculty of Biology of Adam Mickiewicz University (and earlier structures of the same university conducting research and providing education in natural sciences), one of the largest collections of botanical, mycological and zoological specimens in Poland, and in some areas in Europe, has been gathered. These collections are not only of archival importance, but also have priceless scientific value, offering great potential for research and didactic work, as well as for use in cultural, socio-economic and legal contexts.

The mission of the entire project is to develop and promote knowledge of nature through collecting and sharing biodiversity data and providing tools for its analysis to the widest possible audience. It is addressed to all those who document flora, fauna, mycobiotics and natural habitats for scientific, educational and professional purposes. Thus, it can be useful for scientists, teachers, students and pupils, environmental protection workers or offices and services related to environmental management, but also for nature lovers.

One of the first practical examples of using the application, created within the framework of the project, is the aforementioned action “Non-divine ambrosia”. The project was divided into three stages; one of them is the search and mapping of ambrosia sites in Poznan, Poland with the participation of the public, using the AMUNATCOLL IT system.
