Academic World Cup Finals in the ACM ICPC Collegiate Programming Contest 2012
World Cup Finals of Academic Programming Contest (ACM ICPC) will be held from 14 to 18 May at the University of Warsaw. It is the oldest and most prestigious programming competition in the world, in which students take part. 112 teams that won the regional qualications will come to Warsaw. For the purposes of the final, the PIONEER Network NORDUnet compiled two optical 10Gigabit Ethernet channels between Warsaw and Stockholm.

Finals of ACM ICPC are organized for the 36th time (including only four finals in Europe). The contest was previously held in: Orlando, Beverly Hills and Tokyo. Acting as the host is therefore a great honor so every year many universities around the world try really hard to become the organizer of this event.

Polish competitors in the ACM ICPC finals of won twice – in 2003 and 2007, each time the teams represented the University of Warsaw. This year, Poland will be represented by four teams, including one from the UW.

Not only the finals will be special (on 17 May), but also the opening ceremony (on May 15) held in the Congress Hall of the Palace of Culture. The 4D spectacle entitled “QUADROMORPHOSIS” prepared by Piotr Szabliński (director), Agnieszka Glińska (choreographer) and Tomasz Szymuś (composer), will include many different means of expression: light, music, dancing and unique scenery.
