INSENSION project: Increasing independence for the profoundly disabled

For people with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities (PIMD), interaction with the environment is not so easy. In most cases, they are probably dependent on family and caregivers to carry out even basic functions due to severe physical and sensory impairments. And if their communication is not through conventional symbols and at the pre-verbal level, this makes life even more difficult. Such people will be supported by the INSENSION platform, co-created by PSNC.

Ambisonic Audioplays as a Window to the World for Blind Children

Audioplays are re-entering the stage in a new form and becoming a window to the world for the blind and visually impaired. PSNC has commenced collaboration with the Special Education Center for Blind Children [Polish: Ośrodek Szkolno-Wychowawczy dla Dzieci Niewidomych] in Owińska, Poland, to present the pupils with two ambisonic (360°-sound) audioplays. Ambisonic sound imitates authentic sound distribution in space, which enables the listener to fully immerse and actively participate in the performance.

Atomic clock available in Poznan thanks to the PSNC link

As part of the NLPQT project, PSNC launched the first test connection of the system for distribution of the optical carrier at the end of January (optical reference frequency generated by optical clocks), i.e. ultra-precise and ultra-stable frequency standard. The system is also being developed thanks to close cooperation with the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun and the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow.

PSNC to Join IBM Quantum Network, Becoming First Center in Central and Eastern Europe

Poland, Poznań, 04 February 2022 – The first IBM Quantum Innovation Center in Central and Eastern Europe will be located in Poznan. The Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) affiliated with the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences will join the IBM Quantum Network, to explore the development of quantum computing applications including advancing artificial intelligence solutions, space technologies, metrology and crisis modeling.

Crisis Management Workshop (CLAW) 2021

For the third year in a row, PSNC was involved in the organisation of the CLAW workshop on crisis management for the GÉANT project community. As last year, the situation related to the pandemic, forced the organisers to create a completely new form of conducting the training, entirely online. One hundred people from all over the world took part in this year’s edition; in addition to European institutions, we also hosted representatives from Canada, Ghana and Australia.

About the PRACE-LAB project and the Atlair supercomputer in “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna” daily newspaper

Recently, there has been a lot of new information about Polish supercomputers. All because of the TOP500 list identifying the fastest supercomputers in the world, which was announced at the SC’21 Conference (Supercomputing). Polish machines are also present in this prestigious, which were commissioned as part of the PRACE-LAB project. A press article devoted to this subject appeared in “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna” journal.

PSNC’s New Media Department works with ambisonic sound

Immersion in sound is experiencing its renaissance and is again the subject of interest among scientists and entrepreneurs. But this solution has been known since the 1970s, when Michael Gerzon dealt with ambisonic sound. Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center has created an installation that allows you to hear sound in a 360-degree perspective.
