Bio-IT World is the world’s most prestigious event showcasing technologies supporting precision medicine. During this year’s edition, hosted in London (November 29-30, 2023), leading experts from academia, government, biopharmaceuticals and industry shared their research results. The conference was attended by the Director of PSNC – dr Cezary Mazurek.
The event featured over 60 presentations in five thematic tracks. There were also numerous panel discussions. Dr Cezary Mazurek participated in the discussion entitled “Preparing and transforming infrastructure to enable successful Digital Twin initiatives” in the Storage Infrastructure & Cloud Computing thematic track. In this session, the main theme concerned the key components of the Polish e-infrastructure, enabling the development of digital twins in biomedical applications.
On the second day, the bioinformatics-related track featured a panel of the ICTBioMed consortium, of which PSNC has been a member since 2012. Dr Cezary Mazurek, Eng. gave an introductory presentation entitled ‘The importance of new technologies and collaboration for biomedical research’. It is worth emphasizing that the practical applications of Artificial Intelligence technology and Quantum Computing for in-silco clinical trials were considered groundbreaking at this year’s Bio-IT Wordl conference.
Polish PRACE-LAB and PRACE-LAB2 HPC installations in the TOP500

A brand new TOP500 list revealing the fastest supercomputers in the world was released during this year’s Supercomputing in Atlanta (17–22.11.2024). The list includes computing systems from PRACE-LAB and PRACE-LAB2 projects, which are key Polish high efficiency computing infrastructures. These two TOP500 entries confirm Poland’s strong position on the global arena of computing development.

World’s First Multi-QPU, Multi-GPU, Multi-CPU Quantum Use Case Demonstration

In a groundbreaking project, Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) in Poland has worked with NVIDIA and ORCA Computing to demonstrate the world's first hybrid computing architecture at PSNC involving a multi-user HPC environment supporting multiple quantum processing units (QPUs), alongside multi-GPU and multi-CPU job execution. PSNC researchers have also trained a hybrid classical-quantum machine learning algorithm within this environment. This work is a first step toward demonstrating the importance of integrating QPUs into hybrid classical-quantum supercomputing environments.
