CDKL5 meeting in Tokyo

CDKL5 meeting in Tokyo

On September 21 and 22, 2023, scientists, experts and doctors will gather in Tokyo for CDKL5 Asia ‘For the Advancement of Understanding and Treatment of CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder’, an event dedicated to CDKL5 deficiency syndrome (CDD). During the conference, Michał Kosiedowski from the PSNC Future Internet Services Department will present the results of work in the INSENSION project.

The event, bringing together specialists from various corners of the world, will be an opportunity to discuss the latest therapeutic achievements in this field. Michał Kosiedowski was invited to present the potential of technologies supporting communication for people with CDD and other people with profound complex intellectual disabilities, based on the results of the INSENSION project.

CDKL5 deficiency syndrome (CDD) is a rare brain disorder caused by a mutation in the CDKL5 gene, which is located on the X chromosome. Most children affected by CDD suffer from seizures that begin in the first months of life. These children are unable to walk, talk or eat independently. Other symptoms of CDD include cognitive delays, communication difficulties, behavioural problems, cortical visual disturbances, sleep disturbances and gastrointestinal problems. There is currently no treatment for CDD and only symptomatic drug treatment is available.

More information about the conference can be found on the event page.
