‘Colours of Science’ – outdoor exhibition marking the 20th anniversary of Poland in the European Union

This year Poland is celebrating 20 years of its membership in the European Union. To mark the occasion, an open-air exhibition entitled ‘Colours of Science’was presented in four cities: Warsaw, Krakow, Szczecin and Poznań. In the capital of Wielkopolska region, the exhibition can be seen in the courtyard of the headquarters of the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center at Jana Pawla II Street. Photographs were taken by Marcin Zięba aka FINCH, presenting unusual facets of research work on strategic scientific initiatives funded from European programmes.

The exhibition will be available until the end of August in the following locations:

Warsaw: 188/192 Niepodległości Avenue – fence of the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland (exhibition partner), next to Pola Mokotowskie,
Kraków: 16 Grzegórzecka Street – fence of Collegium Medicum of the Jagiellonian University,
Szczecin: 42 Piastów Avenue – fence of the Faculty of Technology and Chemical Engineering of the West Pomeranian University of Technology,
Poznań: 10 Jana Pawła II Street – courtyard of the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center.

The projects shown in the photos were implemented between 2016 and 2023 as a result of calls conducted by the Information Processing Centre – PIB. The funded initiatives represent a variety of scientific fields – from computer science, medicine, genomics, geology, archaeology, environmental protection and social sciences and humanities. In total, Polish research units and universities received as much as PLN 2.5 billion to build laboratories and purchase equipment that is innovative on a European and global scale. The photos also include projects implemented by PSNC. The photos include:

  • Digital research infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities – Dariah.lab,
  • ECBiG – European Centre for Bioinformatics and Genomics – MOSAIC,
  • National Laboratory for Advanced 5G Research,
  • National Data Storage (NDS) – Universal infrastructure for sharing, storage and effictive processing of large data volumes in HPC, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence models,
  • PRACE LAB and PRACE LAB2 – coperation in advanced computing in Europe.
