On 27th September in Warsaw took place a meeting initiating project SYNAT, which started 16th August 2010. The goal of this project, funded by the National Center for Research and Development, is to carry out a research task under the title “The creation of a universal, open, repository and communication hosting platform for network knowledge resources for science, education and open society of knowledge”, which is implemented within the Program of Strategic Research, “Interdisciplinary interactive scientific and technical information system “.

The headquarter of Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center and the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry PAS was visited by 5,000 people, within just a few hours.

On 2nd and 3rd September in Barcelona was held the first official meeting of TF-NOC working group, created under the auspices TERENA. The event was attended by representatives of the various Network Management Centers, including Wiktor Procyk of the PSNC Management Team.

The capabilities of the 4K node in Poznań, together with the process of its creation, were presented during the meeting of the CineGrid organization, whose members include the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center.
Its architecture was introduced in detail and demonstrations were carried out.

On 17th of August 2010, installation of a new DWDM optical transmission system ADVA Optical Networking’s on its own fiber optic lines in relation PIONIER Elbląg – Braniewo – Gronowo was completed. In this way, there is a possibility of connecting o the PIONIER network to the research network in Russia (Kaliningrad). Currently 10 Gbit /s optical channel is available.

The registration for the 7th Task Force Meeting on Archiving has just started, the meeting will be held from 9 -10 September in Poznań. The event is periodically organized by TERENA organization (Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association), this year’s edition is hosted by the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center.

This year’s conference of the Wikimedia community will take place on 9-11 July in Gdańsk. Gdańsk defeated Amsterdam and Oxford in the race to host the event.

Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center hosted thirteen employees from embassies of different countries in Germany last weekend. Diplomats from Albania, Romania, China, Greece, Serbia, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Poland arrived in Poznań in the program of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Visitors were presented the activity of PSNC, as one of the key features of Wielkopolska region.

Between 16th and 18th of June this year in Austin (TX, USA) the Thirteenth International Symposium on Electronic Theses and Dissertation ETD2010 was organized by NDLTD. On the symposium the representatives of scientific institutions from all over the world were exchanging experience related to popularization of the idea of electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs), and also to collecting ETDs and making them available on-line. Main activities in this subject from USA, Canada, several countries from Central and South America and also Africa and Europe were presented.

At the Research for Industry Fair scientists from the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center presented the latest innovations in technology, developed in the center. Professionals from the Applications Department of PSNC developed an application which enables viewing and editing photos by performing gestures in front of a camera.
