On 28 February 2024, on the occasion of the International Rare Diseases Day, the IBCH PAS Foundation, in cooperation with the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry PAS and the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center, is organising a free, fully virtual conference “Doctor-Patient-Scientist, Collaboration in Rare Diseases”, as an expression of solidarity with people struggling with these diseases.

The 15th edition of the international conference “Parallel Processing and Applied Mathematics” (PPAM 2024) will be held in Ostrava, Czech Republic, from 8 to 11 September 2024, during which the Workshop on Advancements of Global Challenges Applications (AGCA), co-founded by PSNC, will be organised.

Next year, Poznań CityLab will open in the capital of Wielkopolska Region. It is an urban innovation laboratory where projects based on artificial intelligence and machine learning will be developed. Universities, research units and a foundation with which the City has signed a letter of intent are involved in its creation. One of the letter signatories is the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center.

During the HiPEAC conference (17-19 January in Munich), the HiDALGO2 and ESIWACE3 centres of excellence jointly organised a workshop entitled “Towards reliable Digital Twin – advancing applications and tools capabilities for Global Challenges”, whose main organiser was Marcin Lawenda, Ph.D. Eng. from the HPC New Architectures Department.

On 15 and 16 February 2024, the third edition of the Quantum Internet Hackathon will take place simultaneously in four European cities: Delft (The Netherlands), Dresden (Germany), Paris (France) and Poznan (Poland). The Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center is the co-organiser of the hackathon, which is aimed at quantum technology enthusiasts

On the 5th and 6th of January, a two-day symposium entitled “Energy – now and tomorrow” was held in the historic palace and park complex in Gułtowy. The event was attended by representatives of scientific and research institutions and local government units from the Wielkopolska region, together with Dr Krzysztof Kurowski – Technical Director of PSNC. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the future of energy.

The PosEmo project, implemented at the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center, was presented at the 57th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS), which took place from 4 to 6 January 4-6.

For three days, from 20 to 22 December, Zakopane in the Tatra Mountains hosted the third edition of the conference “GridLab – The Next 3rd Decade and the Future of Computing”, organised in cooperation with the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center, the University of Notre Dame and the University of Wyoming. The event was attended by guests from the United States, Austria, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Germany, Slovenia and the United Kingdom.

As part of the European Commission’s policy, the European association EOSC aisbl has been established, bringing together more than 100 governmental entities, universities, research and development units and entities from the economic area interested in implementing the concept of open data. The EOSC aisbl Steering Committee (General Assembly), the EOSC Implementation Group and working groups, working to define the principles and plan for open data and open science in accordance with FAIR principles, will work together with a consortium established by PSNC over the next few years (2024-2027) to build an open data ecosystem in Europe.

As a result of the tender launched by the European Commission in December 2022 for the provision of services for open science under the name: “Managed Services for the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) Platform”, PSNC obtained a contract for the provision of data storage services, managed IaaS environments and containers (Managed Container Platform and Virtual Machine Services for the EOSC Exchange – Infrastructure Services).

Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center, an IBM Quantum Innovation Center in Poland, participated actively this year in the IBM Quantum Summit and IBM Practitioners Forum 2023 by presenting its quantum computing research scope and achievements. PSNC has actively supported quantum computing research, benchmarking and integration with classical HPC infrastructure and services in Poland in different use cases and application areas.

Bio-IT World is the world’s most prestigious event showcasing technologies supporting precision medicine. During this year’s edition, hosted in London (November 29-30, 2023), leading experts from academia, government, biopharmaceuticals and industry shared their research results. The conference was attended by the Director of PSNC – dr Cezary Mazurek.
