Large-scale environmental simulations as a step towards digital twins

“Becoming a zettabytes economy. Advanced data centres impact & what’s Beyond?” was a one-day Poznań meeting aimed at connecting business, science and public sector in Wielkopolska. One of the speakers of this event was Dr. Engr. Marcin Lawenda from the HPC New Architectures Department at PSNC.

On 17 October 2024 Beyond‘s Data Center Campus hosted an international meeting organized by the Netherlands-Polish Chamber of Commerce. It was the fourth such meeting organized by the NPCC board as a part of its operations in the Wielkopolska region. This initiative was launched in 2023, and one of its main goals was to bring more interaction to meetings concerning the future of various business sectors, both big and small. It is also how the city of Poznań contributes to the debate on economic, technological, climatic and social challenges. The previous meetings were devoted to the future of agriculture and food security (in collaboration with the University of Life Sciences in Poznań), labor market in the AI era (in collaboration with CDV, Creative Management and some IT students) and green transformation (in collaboration with Veolia Poznań).

PSNC’s Dr. Engr. Marcin Lawenda contributed to this year’s edition of the meeting with his presentation called “Large-scale environmental simulations as a step towards digital twins – the perspective of European scientific project”. He also took part in a discussion panel concerning the current challenges, chances and dangers that can be observed in economy, business, technology, environment and society. Here is how Dr. Engr. Lawenda summed up the meeting:

— Technological environment based on AI changes classic business models, data management and – most importantly – users’ everyday life. The meeting at Beyond.pl Data Center Campus gave us an opportunity to learn more about all that progress and perhaps to take a shot at how it can shape the future. The participants of this discussion represented different companies and specializations, but also differed in age and knowledge, so it was actually interesting to get a whole variety of opinions and points of view presented by both businessmen and users. In addition to that, participants of the meeting had a chance to get acquainted with visions of various experts concerning their specializations in the context of the coming wave of technological development.
