We selected the top 5 projects of the Intel® AI for Youth program

After a year full of challenges, Intel, together with the Orange Foundation and PSNC, completed the next edition of the Intel® AI for Youth program in Poland, celebrating the achievements of students and teachers during the virtual finals. The partners involved in the training are the Polish National Educational Network, the Information Society Development Foundation, the PIONIER Research & Classroom Consortium Educators Network and the Zwolnieni z Teorii Foundation.

Altair supercomputer is fully operational and ready to go

The Altair supercomputer was fully commissioned in May this year. Implementation and integration works began in December 2020, while in January 2021 a part of the system was made available to the most active users. Altair has been physically and logically connected to the Eagle system, which has been operating in PSNC since 2016.

Pollination optimization service in the Demeter project

The Demeter project involves the large-scale implementation of interoperable platforms based on smart agriculture and the Internet of Things. The assumptions are implemented through a series of 20 pilot projects in 18 countries (15 European Union countries). DEMETER integrates multiple systems and data sources, taking into account not only the Internet of Things, but also existing systems, open data, geographic and satellite information, and provides an open and interoperable data integration model.

PSNC has signed the EOSC DIH MoU

The EOSC DIH is one of the key exploitable results of the EOSC-hub project, it has been initiated in 2019 and supported so far 18 pilots. It is coordinated by EGI.eu, with PSNC as deputy coordinator and the leader of the Business Pilots Support. Other partners involved are CINECA, F6S, UCL.

Testing QKD systems: a cryptographic key transmitted over a quantum channel

In the Quantum Technologies Laboratory, operating within the NLPQT Consortium, two systems for the quantum distribution of the cryptographic key were launched and tested: Cerberis, which will serve operationally in the telecommunications network, and Clavis – intended for further development of quantum cryptography methods. The first tests of QKD systems were conducted in the PSNC headquarters.

Agreement on the provision of Polish data processing resources to the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid

As a consequence of the “Memorandum of Understanding for Collaboration in the Deployment and Exploitation of the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG)”, the Cyfronet AGH Academic Computer Center (Cyfronet), the National Center for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) and the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences – Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center have concluded agreement regarding to share the data processing resources for the purposes of Poland’s obligations in the WLCG.

EnrichEuropeana+: Humans and computers work together to uncover treasures of the past

The EnrichEuropeana+ project, which started in early April this year, is an initiative to combine citizen science and artificial intelligence to discover manuscripts from the 19th century and make them available to researchers, students or amateur historians. Apart from PSNC, this initiative was joined by partner institutions from Poland, the Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, Austria and, Croatia.

Promotion of open science in the EOSC FUTURE project

At the beginning of April, work began on the EOSC-FUTURE project, which aims to combine various initiatives and projects in the field of EOSC (European Open Science Cloud) development. The initiative of the European Commission assumes the development of infrastructure providing users with services that promote open science practices. The project consortium consists of 36 partners, including PSNC.
