In early 2024, the LOFAR ERIC consortium was officially established, which includes Poland, includes Bulgaria, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany and Italy. The consortium will work on the European Low Frequency Array European Research Infrastructure.

The explosion of Big Data, Data Science and AI applications means that IT systems need ever faster access to data, using ever larger data collections and ever more files. The efficiency of data access is the key to the efficiency of computing, and thus to progress in research, education or business. The Black Pearl Award is presented by EURORDIS-Rare Diseases Europe. This year’s award in the Medical Technologies category was awarded to the INSENSION project, implemented by the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center. In January 2024, the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) affiliated with the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IBCH PAS) joined EBRAINS as a full member, thus gaining the opportunity to co-design research infrastructure and contribute to the development of digital tools to support brain research. The M. Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences has also joined the association as an Associated Member as of 2024.

As a result of the competition proceedings, the Competition Committee has selected the candidacy of Dr hab. Luiza Handschuh, Professor of IBCH PAS for the position of Director of the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry PAS. Luiza Handschuh has been appointed for a four-year term, which will begin on 1 December 2023.

At the November GÉANT General Assembly (GA) meeting, its members voted for four open GÉANT Board Member positions. Cezary Mazurek, Ph.D., Director of the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center has been elected to this prestigious group.

HPC data storage system built and operated by PSNC has been ranked on the prestigious IO500 list (https://io500.org/), that compares the fastest HPC data storage systems in the World. PSNC reached #10 within the IO500’s Production category and #161 on the Full list.

The European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) HPC4Poland, led by the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center, has received the BDVA i-Space Gold award for the quality and high level of advancement of available research and innovation in hubs across Europe.

MASTA, MCH and PSNC join forces in a mini consortium to develop solutions that will expand the DIH4AI catalog of available AI components and tools.

Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center signed a cooperation agreement with the Marshal’s Office of the Wielkopolska Region and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań to integrate and jointly promote the Spatial Information System of the Wielkopolska Region (SIPWW) and collections within the AMUNATCOLL project.
