Prof. Jan Węglarz received the scientific award of the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences

​Traditionally, at the beginning of December, the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, prof. Jerzy Duszyński, distinguished personalities with the most outstanding scientific achievements in the past year. Among the winners is Professor Jan Węglarz, co-founder and long-time Director of the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center.

 

Five outstanding Polish scientists representing various spheres and fields of science were awarded:

  • Prof. dr. hab. Michał Tymowski, Corresponding Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, for his research achievements in the field of history with particular emphasis on the history of pre-colonial Africa and political anthropology.
  • Dr Tomasz Podgórski from the Mammal Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences for a series of studies on the mechanisms of the spread of African swine fever (ASF) in the wild boar population in Poland.
  • Prof. dr. hab. Lidia Dzierzbicka-Głowacka from the Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences for the use of mathematical models and computer simulations as new methods of recognizing the processes taking place in the marine environment.
  • Prof. dr. hab. Grzegorz Opolski, Corresponding Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, deputy chairman of the Board of Curators of the 5th Department of Medical Sciences, for research on heart diseases, in particular, compensated coronary disease, acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, among others in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prof. Jan Węglarz, received an award for establishing a scientific school in the field of operational research and its applications in computer science.
