3DBigDataSpace

The 3DBigDataSpace project aims to significantly increase the availability of high-quality 3D cultural heritage content and objects by systematically enriching, enhancing and publishing them in the European data space for cultural heritage, as well as using them in XR and AR.

The starting point for the project is the current state of rapidly developing areas of interest such as:

  • large scale datasets such as Objaverse containing 10.2 million 3D models or ShapeNet containing 50 thousand 3D models,
  • repositories such as Sketchfab containing over 100 thousand cultural heritage objects,
  • R&D in the field of automated processing and generation (including AI) of 3D models,
  • mobile technologies, including the use of laser sensors and depth cameras to generate 3D content.

The usefulness of such solutions for applications related to cultural heritage is still limited due to the heterogeneity and frequent quality deficiencies of data and metadata. Therefore, the project will respond to a number of challenges, including research and development work on 3D content, covering topics such as:

  • designing solutions ensuring long-term availability of data sets and their mutual semantic linking,
  • developing search algorithms and the possibility of reusing models in research scenarios,
  • developing mechanisms ensuring support for complex 3D content for interdisciplinary scenarios in various fields of science, art and creative industry,
  • updating and adapting the developed mechanisms to changes and developments in the field of 3D modeling, laser scanning, photogrammetry.
