PSNC storage system in IO500 list for the first time during SC23

HPC data storage system built and operated by PSNC has been ranked on the prestigious IO500 list (https://io500.org/), that compares the fastest HPC data storage systems in the World. PSNC reached #10 within the IO500’s Production category and #161 on the Full list.

These remarkable results place PSNC’s HPC storage system among the fastest academic and commercial systems, next to high-ranked European partners including LRZ, CINECA and UCL.

The Lustre-based HPC storage system has been designed and implemented within the PSNC’s Data Processing Technologies Division, Data Management Technologies Department.

The data infrastructure has been designed, acquired and integrated under the national projects called National Data Storage (POIR.04.02.00-00-D010/20) and PRACE-LAB2 (POIR.04.02.00-00-C003/19) implemented by 9 HPC data centers and universities in Poland.

The IO500 ranking is published in parallel to the Top500 list that compares the fastest supercomputers in the World. In the new 62nd edition of Top500, published during the SC2023 conference in Denver, CO, US, four Polish supercomputers has been ranked on the list including Athena (#155), Altair (#221), Helios (#291) and Ares (#404).

Altair and Ares are part of the national HPC infrastructure funded under PRACE-LAB project (POIR.04.02.00-00-B001/18). The PRACE-LAB project systems are also placed on the Green500 list, which includes the most energy efficient HPC systems.

PRACE-LAB, PRACE-LAB2 and the National Data Storage projects are implemented within the Polish Roadmap for Research Infrastructures.
