PSNC’s “Proste pismo” at the Congress of Effective Communication

On 29 October 2024, Warsaw hosted the Congress of Effective Communication, organized by the Polish Language Foundation. During the expert panel Jarosław Liberek, PhD (Adam Mickiewicz University) and Tomasz Hoffman, PhD (Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center) presented “Proste pismo” (Simple Writing) – a universal tool for simplifying complex written texts, which had been created as a result of cooperation between the Poznań City Hall, Adam Mickiewicz University and Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center.

The Congress of Effective Communication is a nationwide, cross-sectoral event for those interested in plain language, communication effectiveness, as well as information and communication accessibility. Over two days, numerous debates, meetings, and workshops took place. Experts from various fields ponder how to combine theory with practice to make language simpler without being too simplistic.

On the first day of the Congress, during an expert panel, Jarosław Liberek – Head of the Lexicography Laboratory at the Adam Mickiewicz University, and Tomasz Hoffman from the Digital Libraries and Knowledge Platforms Department at PSNC presented the tool developed in cooperation with linguists from the Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań City officials, and specialists from the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center. The project was designed for everyone who creates official texts and documents, both in traditional and electronic form, especially for employees of various offices and institutions. Tomasz Hoffman provided an “under-the-hood” look at the tool, explaining the application of a Large Language Model in a way that even those without a technical background could understand how the AI-powered tool works.
