On 14 and 15 October 2024, Barcelona hosted the Synergy Days conference, considered to be the most important gathering of digital innovators in the European agri-food industry. The international community centered around the Smart Agri Hubs project came together to share knowledge and experience. Raul Palma, PhD – Head of Data Analytics and Semantics Department at PSNC, and Marcin Płóciennik – Head of the Internet of Things Technology Department at PSNC were the attendees representing our Center.
This year’s conference showcased 40 European research projects and, for the first time, European Digital Innovation Centers called Smart Agri Hubs. Over 400 participants from across the agri-food sector got engaged in key discussions, interactive workshops and live demonstrations.
Key topics of discussions included the implementation of a common European agricultural data space (Controlled Environment Agriculture Design Standards, CEADS) and agricultural data partnership. Here are some individual projects presented during specific sessions and at the accompanying exhibition:
- Validation services for SMEs leveraging AI and robotics in the agrifood sector (AgrifoodTEF),
- How can Agrifood TEF (a 60 million project) help EDIHs support SMEs? (AgrifoodTEF),

Polish PRACE-LAB and PRACE-LAB2 HPC installations in the TOP500

A brand new TOP500 list revealing the fastest supercomputers in the world was released during this year’s Supercomputing in Atlanta (17–22.11.2024). The list includes computing systems from PRACE-LAB and PRACE-LAB2 projects, which are key Polish high efficiency computing infrastructures. These two TOP500 entries confirm Poland’s strong position on the global arena of computing development.

World’s First Multi-QPU, Multi-GPU, Multi-CPU Quantum Use Case Demonstration

In a groundbreaking project, Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) in Poland has worked with NVIDIA and ORCA Computing to demonstrate the world's first hybrid computing architecture at PSNC involving a multi-user HPC environment supporting multiple quantum processing units (QPUs), alongside multi-GPU and multi-CPU job execution. PSNC researchers have also trained a hybrid classical-quantum machine learning algorithm within this environment. This work is a first step toward demonstrating the importance of integrating QPUs into hybrid classical-quantum supercomputing environments.

PSNC premiered its own original data access system EOSC EU NODE (European Open Science Cloud EU NODE) during the SC24 conference in Atlanta. The conference is well-known for HPC, cloud, computing and data access solutions galore presented there on a yearly basis. The PSNC system constitutes the very first node dedicated entirely to the European Commission's open scientific data project (EOSC).

On Thursday 17 October, an international Researchers Forum was held as part of the ATRIUM (Advancing Frontier Research in the Arts and Humanities) project.
