The first official launch of EOSC EU NODE

The first official launch of EOSC EU NODE

October 10th 2024 was the first official launch of EOSC EU NODE, a reference node for EOSC provided by the European Commission. The presentation was held for European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) and Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CNECT) and EOSC Association.

The launch event was organised in a hybrid mode and focused on a technical demonstration of the EOSC EU Node, provided by the contractors at first hand, who are also responsible for the operations, maintenance and support of the services.

The official launch and opening for public use is scheduled for the EOSC Symposium later this month, marking a significant milestone in making EOSC a reality.
The EOSC EU NODE will offer compute, container, storage, and file transfer/synchronization services, with additional offerings expected in the future. This represents a significant step forward in realizing the EOSC vision.

Supporting the EU’s Policy of Open Science, the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) aims to give the EU a global lead in research data management and ensure that scientists in Europe enjoy the full benefits of data-driven science. To foster the development of EOSC, the European Commission has deployed into production the EOSC EU Node in the form of managed services provided by third-party contractors.

PSNC is the main contractor for two EOSC tenders awarded by the European Commission (November 2023) and provides services for the scientific community in Europe. During this EOSC Technical launch meeting, the representative of DG RTD, responsible for cooperation with the EOSC Association, stated that the Commission’s goal is to build a Pan-European infrastructure supporting research and development. One of the elements of this pan-European environment was certainly the EOSC platform delivered today by PSNC and its subcontractors: Safespring (Sweden), Owncloud (Germany), Nordunet (Danmark), Cesnet (Czech) and EGI (Netherlands). We can say that on October 10th PSNC initiated the construction of the EOSC infrastructure and services in Europe for the European Commission to be delivered to science and industry.
